According to the information, the complainant is a 29-year-old woman, whom he met through a dating app. According to Australian police, Gunatilka then allegedly sexually assaulted the woman on Wednesday evening. Gunatilka was arrested on Sunday morning from the Team Hotel in Sydney's Central Business District. Police is currently investigating the matter.

A New South Wales Police statement said the woman met the man after several days of conversation through an online dating application. It is alleged that the man sexually assaulted her on the evening of Wednesday, November 2. Police also conducted a crime scene investigation on Saturday at an address in Rose Bay. According to the police, 'After interrogation, a 31-year-old man was arrested in a hotel on Sussex Street, Sydney, shortly before 1 am today (Sunday 6 November).'

Gunatilaka, who has been charged with having sex without consent, was taken to the Sydney City Police Station. The Sri Lankan national (Gunatilaka) was denied bail to appear in Parramatta Court through AVL (Audio-Visual Link) today, the statement said. Gunatilaka was ruled out of the T20 World Cup during the first round due to a hamstring injury. However, he remained with the team in Australia. He has played eight Tests, 47 ODIs and 46 T20Is for Sri Lanka since making his international debut in November 2015.
