India-Bangladesh Relation: After the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her main rival party Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued an important statement on India-Bangladesh relations. Senior BNP leader Amir Khusro Mahmud Chowdhury has alleged that some former diplomats, bureaucrats, and political leaders have misled India that without the Sheikh Hasina-led government, India-Bangladesh relations will be strained.Chowdhury said that the BNP, which is led by Khaleda Zia, is in favor of strong relations between Bangladesh and India. He accused some Indian leaders and institutions of exaggerating the internal affairs of Bangladesh. In particular, he rejected the allegations that without Sheikh Hasina, the influence of fundamentalists in Bangladesh will increase and the safety of minorities will be in danger.Chowdhury also clarified that the Constitution of Bangladesh gives equal rights to all citizens and no government supports attacks on minorities. He urged Indian leaders not to interfere in Bangladesh's internal affairs and refrain from commenting on Bangladesh's internal issues.Referring to the violence in Bangladesh after the fall of Hasina's government and allegations of attacks on minority Hindus, Chowdhury said such incidents are rare in Bangladesh and the country's constitution protects the rights of minorities. He also added that maintaining good relations with India is BNP's priority, and his party's aim is to ensure stable and positive relations between the two countries.
