National News - Struggle over MLC elections in Maharashtra, Congress claims - MLAs are getting calls in the name of central agencies
In Maharashtra, politics has intensified regarding the elections to be held on the vacant seats of the Legislative Council. Two days before the elections, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Saturday made serious allegations against the BJP government at the Center. He said that the ruling MLAs of the state are being called and they are being told that the central agencies have all the information about them. Elections for 10 seats in the state legislative council will be held on June 20, for which the BJP and the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are trying to woo independents and smaller parties.

Patole exuded confidence that all the six MVA candidates would emerge victorious as the numbers were in favor of the MVA. He also said that the Congress will force the central government to withdraw the 'Agneepath' scheme for recruitment in the armed forces as the youth are opposing it.

Agencies are being misused

Patole said, “The BJP-led central government is misusing the central agencies to harass the opposition across the country. These agencies are being misused to suppress and intimidate the voices of the opposition parties. Direct calls are being made to the MLAs (in Maharashtra). The callers are telling the MLAs that they (agencies) have all the information about them. He alleged that the central government was using CBI and ED as "weapons" which are dangerous for democracy.

Patole said – figures in favor of MVA

The Congress leader claimed, "BJP has crossed all limits for its greed for power. Rumors are being spread that the (Maha Vikas Aghadi) alliance is broken. While the BJP is breaking down. “However, as per our calculations, the figures are in favor of MVA. The Congress needs 12 votes to elect its second candidate, while the BJP needs 22 votes to ensure the victory of its fifth candidate. Even after this, BJP is claiming victory on the basis of central agencies and money.
