Country - Supreme Court gives setback to central government committee will be formed under the chairmanship of retired SC judge for investigation
The Supreme Court has agreed to constitute an independent committee, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, to probe into the security lapses of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab's Ferozepur last week. The Supreme Court has proposed to include DGP Chandigarh, IG National Investigation Agency, Registrar General of Punjab and Haryana High Court and ADGP (Security) Punjab in the committee. During the hearing of the case, the Chief Justice said that we got the documents related to the security of the Prime Minister at 10 am today. During the hearing, it has been said on behalf of the central government that the Channi government was already aware of the road travel of PM Modi. In this case, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta is giving details of the functioning of the SPG. He is telling about various provisions of the law, how security is maintained in coordination with the state police chief.

The SG Chief Justice gave information about the SPG Act regarding the security of the Prime Minister, as well as shared the information given in the Blue Book regarding security. He said that there is no doubt that there has been a mistake in following this entire process. There can be no dispute on this. The fact that there has been security lapse and negligence cannot be denied. It is clear in the 'Blue Book' that the security arrangements are made by the local police under the supervision of the Director General of Police.

In this case, Punjab government's lawyer DS Patwalia said, '7 show cause notices were issued to our officers. He didn't get a chance to speak his mind. When there is a stay on the investigation of the committee, then what is the justification for issuing a show cause notice?

Patwalia said during the hearing of the case that if the Supreme Court wants, then it should constitute a separate inquiry committee in this matter. We will cooperate in that committee, but our government and our officials should not be blamed now. He further said that there will be no fair investigation by the central government in this matter. Please appoint an independent committee, and give us a fair trial.

What is the whole matter?

PM Modi was about to reach Firozpur in Punjab to lay the foundation stone of various projects worth Rs 42,750 crore. For this, he was being taken to the National Martyrs Memorial by road as it was not possible to go by helicopter due to bad weather. But at some distance from the venue, farmers protested and blocked the road, due to which the Prime Minister's convoy was stuck on the flyover for 15-20 minutes. He had to return after canceling his rally as the road was not empty.
