Supreme Court takes suo motu cognisance of Lakhimpur Kheri violence

New Delhi : The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Lakhimpur violence. A bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli will hear the matter tomorrow. 9 people, including 4 farmers, were killed in the violence that took place here on Sunday.

The farmers allege that Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, crushed them to death with a vehicle, while the minister and his son claim that he was not present at the spot. Angry farmers then ransacked and arson. Apart from the driver of the Union Minister, 3 BJP workers were beaten to death. A journalist who was injured during the coverage also died the next day.

On the basis of the complaint given by the farmers, the UP Police has also registered an FIR against the son of the Union Minister, while BJP leader Sumit, who saved his life by running away from the spot, has also given a complaint against unknown people. However, no arrest has been made so far.
