Vinesh Phogat Case: The decision on the fate of India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been postponed once again. The wait for Vinesh Phogat, who appealed to the Court of Arbitration (CAS) against her disqualification in the Paris Olympics, has increased further. Vinesh had appealed demanding a silver medal for herself, which was also heard on August 9 and the decision was to come the same evening but it was again postponed till August 10. The decision did not come on August 10 as well and the date of decision was fixed on August 13, but now once again CAS has postponed it for 3 days. Now this decision will be announced on August 16 at 9.30 pm (Indian time).

What is the matter?

This issue has been dominating the media and social media of the country and the world for the last one week. It started on August 6 at the Paris Olympics. That day, in the women's 50 kg category, Vinesh Phogat created a stir by defeating Japan's world number-1 Yui Susaki in the first round itself. After this, Vinesh also won her quarter-final match easily and in the evening, she made it to the final by defeating Cuba's Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals. She became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the final of the Olympics. With this, her medal was also confirmed, which could have been gold as well and at least a silver medal was certain.

Then the final was to be held on the next day i.e. 7 August, but before the final, according to the rules, the weight had to be measured again in the morning. It was here that Vinesh's weight was found to be 100 grams more than the set 50 kg and according to the rules of UWW, she was disqualified and excluded from the final. The rules of UWW are so strict that not only the final, but she was excluded from the entire event, all her results were also canceled and the possible silver medal was also taken away. She was placed last among the 12 wrestlers.

Vinesh's appeal and hearing

Against this rule and this result, Vinesh filed an appeal in CAS on the evening of 7 August. Vinesh demanded that the final be stopped and she be given her place back, which was rejected by CAS saying that they cannot stop the final. After this, Vinesh amended the appeal and demanded a joint silver medal. Her argument is that her weight was more only on the day of the final, but on the first day she played all three matches within the prescribed weight limit. CAS heard it for 3 hours on 9 August, in which the Indian Olympic Association also became a party, while the International Olympic Committee and UWW also presented their sides. Earlier, the decision was to come after the hearing, but then the decision was to come on 10 August, but it was postponed to 13 August.
