Monkeypox case: Monkeypox has gone viral in India and now its second case has come up in Kerala. According to the state health ministry, a person has been confirmed to be infected with monkeypox in Kannur district. According to the information, this young man, who reached Kerala from abroad, was admitted to Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur on Sunday on suspicion of being infected with monkeypox, where the infection has now been confirmed.

Second consecutive case in Kerala

The patient's samples were sent for test and only after the report came, the infection was confirmed. The patient is currently in the Quarantine Center of the Medical College Hospital. Earlier on Thursday, a central team was sent to Kerala after the first case of monkeypox was reported in the country. The first case was also reported from Kerala and the patient had returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on 12 July.

With the first case of monkeypox coming to the fore, apart from the central government, the state government has also come into alert mode. In view of the prevention of infection, the state government has prepared help desks at the international airports of the state and doctors are also being trained. Apart from this, help desks have also been started at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode and Kannur airports.

Passenger screening at the airport

According to the state health ministry, the help desks will be helpful in identifying the symptoms of monkeypox in travelers coming from abroad, where trained personnel have been deployed. Apart from travelers coming from countries where cases of monkeypox have been reported in the last 21 days, people with symptoms such as fever, blisters, headache, body aches, muscle aches, sore throat and difficulty in swallowing food will be taken to airports. But it is advised to contact the help desk.

Five districts of Kerala have been put on high alert as well as the state government has instructed the patient to remain in home quarantine for 21 days if he shows symptoms of infection.
