Modi Government - There is good news for those who take free ration from the government, the government will announce today!
Modi Government: If you are also taking free ration under the Central Government's Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), then this news was for you. It was being said in all the media reports that the government does not have enough food grains, so after December, the government can stop the facility provided under this scheme. But now there is news that even after December, PM Modi will consider expanding the PMGKAY scheme, which provides free ration to the poor.

Cabinet meeting will be held today

Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje gave this information while emphasizing that the government has sufficient stock of food grains. If the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) is taken forward, then this decision will be taken by the cabinet under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. Cabinet meeting is going to be held today. Many decisions can be taken in today's meeting including taking forward the ration scheme. In September, the deadline for the ration scheme was extended by the government for three months i.e. till 31 December.

1.80 lakh crore spent on free ration distribution

Minister of State for Agriculture Karandlaje said, 'Cases of Kovid-19 are coming. This plan is for till December. The Prime Minister will take a decision about taking it forward. He said that in the last 28 months, the government has spent Rs 1.80 lakh crore on distribution of free ration to the poor under PMGKAY. He said that the government has enough food grains stock to meet the requirement under Food Security Act and other welfare schemes.

The minister further said that the perception that rice and wheat production is likely to decline in UP, Bihar and West Bengal due to drought and some impact of climate change on the crop is not correct. Last week, the Food Ministry had said that about 159 lakh tonnes of wheat and 104 lakh tonnes of rice would be available by January 1, 2023, while the buffer stock requirement as on January 1 is 138 lakh tonnes of wheat and 76 lakh tonnes of rice. He said that till December 15, about 180 lakh tonnes of wheat and 111 lakh tonnes of rice were available in the central pool.
