Two terrorists were killed during a meeting with security forces in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials said. The operation is ongoing in the Thanamandi forest belt area and so far two fighters have been killed, they said.
"This is a group of three to four terrorists, two of which are foreign terrorists," said Mukesh Singh, director general of additional police (ADGP), Jammu area, adding that "we believe that they've moved from Cashmere this way."
Security forces monitored a group of militiamen in the district's forest belts for a month using digital surveillance, he said.
"Today we received information from Thanamandi and contact was made with the terrorists, leading to an encounter in the forest belt," Singh said.
The shooting began shortly after security forces stormed militants' positions, officials said.
