The Queen has been pictured driving without a seat belt - a year after husband Prince Philip had his high-profile crash.

The 93-year-old monarch was photographed as she was driving her black Range Rover down a road near her private Sandringham Estate in Norfolk yesterday.

She is seen wearing a headscarf with dog prints and a winter jacket. Passengers and a dog are also seen in her car.

It is against the law to drive without a seat belt on, but the Queen is immune from any civil or criminal proceedings.

Just a year ago, on January 17, Prince Philip, then 97, was involved in a crash with a Kia car after he pulled his Land Rover Freelander out of a side road onto the A149 near Sandringham. He was unharmed but had to be helped out of his overturned car.

Driver of the Kia, Ellie Townsend, suffered cuts to her knee and her passenger Emma Fairweather broke her wrist. They were both taken to hospital. Ms Townsend's nine-month-old baby escaped unhurt.

According to a witness at the scene, the Duke had blamed the dazzling sun.

Prince Philip was back driving without a seat belt less than 48 hours after the accident. But he gave up his driving licence a month later and apologised after Ms Fairweather complained about the lack of apology from the Royal Family.

The Crown Prosecution Service in February decided not to prosecute the royal, saying "it would not be in the public interest".

The Sunday Times reported in May last year that the Queen had agreed to give up driving on public roads on advice of her security team after the crash.

The monarch, who has been driving for more than 70 years, has never taken a driving test and is the only person in the UK allowed to drive without a licence.

She is known to enjoy driving in her fleet of Jaguars, Land Rovers and Range Rovers.

Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment.

The Queen has had a traumatic week.

She is said to be disappointed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's sudden announcement that they would step down as "senior" members of the royal family and become "financially independent".
