Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Congress alleged on Friday.
The party sought to hyperlink the blockading of former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account with the BJP’s “anti-Dalit” attitude and accused the ruling party of forcing Twitter to behave in opposition to Mr Gandhi.
Addressing a joint press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate and Dalit Congress chief Dr. Udit Raj (a former Lok Sabha member of the BJP) wondered why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have been silent on incidents regarding Dalit girls and daughters.
“Rahul Gandhi-ji's Twitter [account] is locked, our Congress Twitter handles are being locked due to the fact the Congress stood for Dalit beti (daughter). That is it,” alleged Mr Raj.
Referring to the incident in Delhi in which a 9-year-old Dalit woman became raped and murdered, the Congress chief said, “RSS and BJP supporters didn’t visit Nangal village withinside the Delhi Cantonment area. If a cow had been killed, lots of them might have descended there. In the eyes of the BJP and RSS, the price of a Dalit existence is much less than a cow.”
Ms. Shrinate argued strongly that Congress was not in violation of Twitter's personal policy.
"Twitter categorically states that when you have shared non-public statistics, which has already been to be had on a public platform, then it isn't a contravention in their policy. Rahul Gandhiji shared non-public statistics or the photographs of this mother and father on 4th August. This was already available in the public area via many platforms, which include media, [and] the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. We have been now no longer in violation," she said.
