IIT Madras has once again found out the reason for the increasing corona infection in the capital Delhi. Actually, the R-value of Delhi has been found to be 2.1 this week.

According to IIT, the R value of 2.1 indicates that every corona found in the capital is infecting two others. The R value tells how many people a patient can spread the virus to. If this value becomes less than 1, it means that the epidemic is over.

This initial analysis was done jointly by the Department of Mathematics, IIT-Madras and the Center of Excellence for Computational Mathematics and Data Science. It was led by Nilesh S Upadhyay and Professor S Sundar. It was studied through computer modeling. As per the analysis results, Delhi's R-value this week was recorded at 2.1, while the country's national R-value is 1.3.

Fourth wave claims too early

Asked whether it can be inferred that this is the beginning of the fourth wave of Kovid-19 in Delhi, Dr Jayant Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, IIT-Madras said that it is too early to announce the start of another wave. Will be We can only say for now that each one is affecting two others, but we need to wait a bit for the new beginnings to be announced.

We also don't know what is the immunity status of the people who got infected during the third wave in January. Are the people infected in January getting infected again? We don't know that either. For other metro cities- Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, Prof. Jha said that the number of cases is too small to ascertain the trend of corona there.

Positive rate of 4.64 percent in Delhi

The number of cases of Kovid-19 in Delhi is once again seeing a spurt. On Friday, the positivity here became 4.64 percent. 1,042 new covid cases were registered.

ba.2.12 strain may be the cause

Sources said Omicron's sub-strain BA.2.12 has been detected in most of the samples taken from Delhi in the first fortnight of April. This could be the reason for the recent spurt in Kovid-19 cases in Delhi. On the other hand, sources in Insacco claim that Omicron's derivative variant BA.2.12.1 has also been found in some samples in Delhi. This is said to be contributing to the increase in recent cases. But officials have not confirmed that it was found in some samples in Delhi.
