Tripura Elections 2023: Voting for the 60-member assembly in Tripura is going on today at 7 am amid tight security at 3,337 polling stations. The main contenders in the election are the BJP-IPFT alliance, the CPI(M)-Congress alliance and Tipra Motha, a regional party formed by the scion of the former royal family of the northeastern state. The counting of votes will take place on March 2. 31,000 polling personnel and 25,000 security personnel of central forces have been deployed to conduct the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner. 1,100 booths have been identified as sensitive and 28 as hyper sensitive. State Chief Minister Manik Saha is the BJP candidate from Town Bardovali constituency, while Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik is contesting from Dhanpur on a BJP ticket. Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhary is contesting from the Sabroom assembly seat. He is the face of the Left-Congress alliance. Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Debbarma is not contesting. BJP is contesting on 55 seats while its ally IPFT has fielded candidates on 6 seats, one seat will be a friendly contest.
