India-Britain Relation: Britain's newly elected Prime Minister Keir Stormer spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday morning. According to Downing Street, the British Prime Minister's residence, he said that he is ready to complete a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) beneficial for both sides. India and Britain have been negotiating on the FTA for more than two years, but the talks were halted in the 14th round amid general elections in both countries. It is expected that now the new Labor government led by Stormer will start the talks again. The Labor government has got a huge majority.

Regarding Prime Minister Stormer's international phone talks related to the Indo-Pacific region, Downing Street said that on Saturday he first spoke to India's PM Narendra Modi and then to Japan and Australia.

Both leaders congratulated each other

A Downing Street spokesperson said that the two leaders congratulated each other on the election victory and discussed the strengthening of relations between Britain and India. He said that while discussing the free trade agreement, the Prime Minister said that he is ready to reach a beneficial agreement for both the parties. Both the leaders expressed hope to meet as soon as possible.

Political turmoil in Britain

Since January 2022, when Boris Johnson was the British Prime Minister, both sides have been working towards reaching an agreement to increase the bilateral trade partnership of 38.1 billion pounds. Since then, Britain has faced political turmoil. First Liz Truss was made the Prime Minister for a short time, after that Rishi Sunak became the first Prime Minister of Indian origin of Britain.

Strong relations between India and Britain

Keir Starmer said that he looks forward to further deepening the strong and respectful relationship between India and Britain. He also welcomed Prime Minister Modi's leadership on major global challenges like climate change and economic development. The two leaders discussed the 2030 roadmap between Britain and India. The statement said that they also agreed that there are many areas such as defence and security, critical and emerging technologies and climate change, on which the two countries should deepen cooperation.
