Paris Olympic 2024: The day of 7 August in Paris Olympics 2024 is no less than a nightmare. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was going to participate in the gold medal match in the wrestling event, has been excluded from this event. Vinesh had made it to the final of the women's wrestling freestyle in the 50 kg category. But a few hours before the match, her weight was found to be about 100 grams more, due to which she was disqualified. Vinesh had qualified for the final a day earlier by winning three consecutive matches. But what happened after this that her weight increased, on this issue, now the Chief Medical Officer of the Indian team, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala has given a big statement.

What happened to Vinesh Phogat before the final?

Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala said that wrestlers usually participate in a weight category lower than their weight. This benefits them because they are fighting with less strong rivals. There is a strict restriction on food and drink till the weighing is done in the morning. Apart from this, the wrestlers also sweat through exercise. Vinesh's nutritionist felt that she takes a normal amount of 1.5 kg throughout the day which gives enough energy for the matches. Sometimes the weight also increases after a competition. Vinesh had played three consecutive matches, so she had to be given water to prevent dehydration.

Dinshaw Pardiwala further said that after giving water, we found that Vinesh's weight had increased more than normal and the coach started the normal process of weight reduction which he always does with Vinesh, we started reducing the weight overnight. Despite all efforts, we found that Vinesh weighed 100 grams more than her 50 kg weight category. We took all possible drastic measures including cutting her hair and shortening her clothes, despite this we could not join that 50 kg weight category after disqualification.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha said on this issue that Vinesh being disqualified is quite shocking. I have met Vinesh in the Olympic Village. We have assured Vinesh of all possible help and support from the Government of India and the people of India. We are also providing medical and emotional support to Vinesh. The Wrestling Federation of India has applied to the UWW and they are also taking appropriate action on it.
