Coimbatore City Police have released an investigation into the loss of life of a female elderly among 40 and 50 whose body was discovered run over by vehicles on Avinashi Road, in Coimbatore, on Monday. The police are yet to hint at the identification of the semi-clad female whose face was disfigured.
Visuals from a surveillance camera of a store at Chinniyampalayam confirmed the female’s body dragged for some metres at the wet street after a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) surpassed the section of Avinashi Road at 5.44 a.m.
However, it was now no longer clear whether or not the female was dragged on the street after being hit by the MUV or the female’s body was dropped from the vehicle, stated a police officer.
T. Jayachandran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), stated that a case of unnatural death has been registered in reference to the incident. “Two unique groups had been formed to check whether or not it was an accident or a female’s body was dumped from a vehicle. We are also checking info of missing girls from Coimbatore and close by places,” he stated.
Another police officer stated that the version of MUV has been identified. However, its registration number is yet to be traced, stated the officer.
The surveillance camera visuals confirmed an autorickshaw passing thru the street straight away after the MUV. The police have been searching for its driver as autorickshaws are normally operated inside a locality. The police consider that the autorickshaw driver could provide a few inputs about the incident.
