India - Yashwant filed nomination for Presidential election, Rahul and Pawar were together
New Delhi : Yashwant Sinha, the opposition's presidential candidate, has filed his nomination. On this occasion, many opposition leaders including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and NCP leader Sharad Pawar were present with him. Not only this, several other opposition leaders including Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and TMC's Sudheendra Kulkarni were present. Congress leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge was also present on the occasion, who was seen sitting next to Rahul Gandhi.

Apart from this, leaders of Telangana's ruling party TRS, which supported Yashwant Sinha's candidature, had also reached this morning. Farooq Abdullah from Jammu and Kashmir had also reached the occasion to express his support. Yashwant Sinha will challenge Draupadi Murmu, fielded by the ruling NDA alliance. However, Draupadi Murmu's victory is believed to be largely certain. The reason for this is that the NDA is just a short distance from the majority figure, while parties like YSR Congress, Biju Janata Dal have declared their support. In such a situation, the victory of Murmu is considered certain.

CPM's Bengal unit had objected to Yashwant's name

Let us tell you that there was many rounds of brainstorming on the presidential candidate from the opposition and after that Yashwant Sinha's name was stamped. However, differences are also being seen about him and the Bengal unit of CPM has opposed his name saying that he has been associated with the BJP. Before the decision on his name, opposition parties and Mamata Banerjee had urged Sharad Pawar to become the candidate, but he rejected it. Apart from him, Mahatma Gandhi's grandson also denied this. Due to this, in the end, a consensus was reached on the name of Yashwant Sinha.

Opposition showed solidarity on the occasion of nomination

The TRS leader's presence is crucial for the opposition camp, though Congress ally Jharkhand Mukti Morcha stayed away from Sinha's nomination. The JMM is believed to have yet to decide which of the opposition's candidate and the NDA's candidate to support. After filing his nomination, Sinha garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Bhimrao Ambedkar in the Parliament House complex. Sinha, who has held important positions like finance and external affairs minister in the NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is likely to start his election campaign from Tamil Nadu on June 28. He can also visit Karnataka and Kerala in the first phase of this campaign.

Ramnath Kovind's term ends on July 24

The opposition parties had declared Sinha as their common candidate on June 21. National Democratic Alliance candidate Draupadi Murmu had filed her nomination on Friday last week. The presidential election is to be held on 18 July. Counting of votes will take place on July 21. The term of current President Ram Nath Kovind ends on July 24.
