US Presidential Election: Votes will be cast for the presidential election on November 5 in the US, where the contest will be between Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party and Donald Trump of the Republican Party. If Kamala Harris wins, she will become the first woman president of America, while Trump will hold this post for the second time if he wins. The eyes of the whole world are fixed on this election. The special thing about the US presidential election is that it always takes place on the first Tuesday of November, and this tradition has been going on for 170 years.

After 2024, voting for the presidential election will be held on November 7 in 2028 and on November 2 in 2032. The President is elected every 4 years in the US, and this process takes place on the first Tuesday of November.

History of voting on Tuesday

On January 23, 1845, the US Congress passed an act, making a rule to elect the President and Vice President electors on the first Tuesday of November. Earlier, citizens had 34 days to cast their votes, which lasted till the first Wednesday of December. A fixed date was fixed so that the election results of the states do not affect the voters of other states.

Tuesday was chosen for the election because at that time most of the people in America were farmers, who had to travel long distances to vote. Sunday was the day to go to church, and Wednesday was the market day for farmers. Therefore, Tuesday was fixed as the voting day, so that people could travel on Monday and vote on Tuesday.

Electoral importance of November

The reason for holding elections in November is related to agricultural culture. Farmers were busy in the fields in spring and summer, while their harvesting was completed in early November. Because of this, this time was considered most suitable, so that farmers could participate in the elections without any hindrance.

American Election Process

In the American election, citizens do not vote directly for the President and Vice President. They cast votes for a group of electors, who later have the right to elect the President and Vice President. During elections, every citizen votes for their preferred presidential candidate and their vice presidential running mate.
