India vs Australia Test Series: Australia has selected four spinners in the 18-member squad announced for the upcoming India tour, while fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the first Test match to be played in Nagpur. The Test series of four Test matches between India and Australia will be played in February and March.

Mitchell Starc is out of the first test

Mitchell Starc suffered a finger injury during the Boxing-Day Test match against South Africa. This injury kept him out of the last match of that series. On Wednesday, the Australian selector confirmed that Starc would not be able to play in the first Test starting on 9 February. He will join the team before the Delhi Test. All-rounder Cameron Green, who is recovering from a broken finger, will travel with the team ahead of the first Test.

Place given to these 4 spinners

Living up to expectations, the selectors have picked four spinners for the tour in the form of Nathan Lyon, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson and the uncapped Todd Murphy. Matthew Renshaw and Peter Handscomb will be the back-up batsmen, while Marcus Harris has not found a place in this team. No back-up wicketkeeper has been selected for Alex Carey in the team and Handscomb will be turned if needed.

Boland is also included in the team

Lance Morris has been retained in the squad. If Australia want extra pace in the absence of Starc in Nagpur, then they can give Morris a chance to play. Apart from this, Scott Boland has also been kept in the team.

George Bailey gave this statement

Chief selector George Bailey said that with four spinners in the squad, the team would have options with Nathan Lyon as his partner. Bailey said, "Ashton Agar has been impressing since his return in Sydney and we expect finger spin to play a key role in Indian conditions." Mitchell Swepson has recent experience of playing in the sub-continent and brings leg-spin variations. Todd Murphy has impressed with his performances in domestic cricket and Australia-A and has emerged as a strong spin option.

There will be a lot of pressure on these players

Handscomb was recently added to the Test squad for the Sydney Test at the last minute. Handscomb and Renshaw played all four matches on Australia's last tour of India in 2017. Renshaw scored two half-centuries while Handscomb played a match-saving knock of 72 not out off 200 balls in Ranchi. Handscomb has been the highest run scorer in the Sheffield Shield in the last two seasons.
