IND vs AUS: The Indian cricket team defeated Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first match of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With this, Team India went ahead 1-0 in the series. The second Test of the series is to be played in Delhi. While Team India would like to double their lead, the Australian team would be eyeing a comeback. But before this match, a bad news has come out for the Indian team.

Iyer will not be able to play the second test as well.

Star batsman Shreyas Iyer, who was ruled out of the first Test due to a back injury, is still undergoing the 'rehab' process at the Nations Cricket Academy (NCA). Due to which the team management does not want to take the risk of fielding him in the second Test match. The second Test between India and Australia will be played at Ferozeshah Kotla from Friday and it remains to be seen whether Iyer joins the team or not. Iyer is doing 'strength and conditioning' training but will be required to play at least one domestic match with the team as criteria to return to international level.

Will have to play domestic match

Therefore, Iyer cannot be fielded directly in a Test match as he will have to field for 90 overs and may have to bat for a long time. It will be interesting to see whether the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee includes Iyer in the Rest of India squad to prove his fitness for the Irani Cup match against Madhya Pradesh from March 1 to 5. The selection committee had asked Ravindra Jadeja to play a Ranji Trophy match to prove his fitness. While Jasprit Bumrah's recovery from his stress fracture has been slow, the Indian team management will not risk playing him in the three ODIs against Australia after the four-match Test series.

Aham Bumrah for World Test Championship

Bumrah is likely to be needed in the World Test Championship final at the Oval in London from June 7 to 11 and his presence will also be crucial for the ODI World Cup to be held in India later this year. So there is every possibility that Bumrah will make a comeback for Mumbai Indians in IPL this year where his workload will be monitored. Jadeja, who was the player of the match in the first Test, returned to the nets at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha for an optional training session ahead of the second Test starting in Delhi on Friday. Jadeja was accompanied by senior batsman Cheteshwar Pujara. Pujara will play his 100th Test match at Feroz Shah Kotla.
