#BoycottCanadianKumar is trending on twitter after Akshay Kumar ‘mistakenly likes’ video mocking attack on Jamia Millia Islamia University protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Akshay said he had accidentally liked the tweet with the caption, "Badhai Ho.. Jamia me Azaadi mili hai". The user had posted a video of showing students running away from police personnel.

Akshay Kumar on Monday distanced himself from a post on Twitter that allegedly mocked the crackdown on the students of Jamia Milia Islamia University after their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Akshay said he had accidentally liked the tweet with the caption, "Badhai Ho... Jamia me Azaadi mili hai". The user had posted a video of showing students running away from police personnel.

"Regarding the 'like' on the tweet of Jamia Milia students, it was by mistake. I was scrolling and accidentally it must have been pressed and when I realised I immediately unliked it as in no way do I support such acts," the Bollywood star clarified when a screenshot of the ‘liked’ post went viral.

Interestingly, after his response, #BoycottCanadianKumar started trending on Twitter with many criticising the actor for liking the tweet that praised police crackdown on students.

Some social media users trolled the actor for his ‘like’ and even claimed that he lent his support to the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) “because He will get Indian citizenship.”

Meanwhile, Fans of the star came to his defence by sharing his statement on the same saying, “he is the only actor who also supports the right which u can see in his last sentence.”

Still others asked, “Where are the Khan’s,” while pointing out that Shah Rukh Khan was an alumni of the college.

The Delhi police had entered the Jamia Millia Islamia University, where a protest against the amended Citizenship Act, and allegedly fired tear gas to break up a protest that left forty people, including students, policemen and firemen injured.
