Chennai Super Kings have won the first L-Classico of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in the 1000th match of the league. Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets in the first innings, while Ajinkya Rahane scored fifty in 19 balls. Both were the heroes of CSK's victory.

MI vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings have won the first L-Classico of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in the 1000th match of the league. Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets in the first innings, while Ajinkya Rahane scored fifty in 19 balls. Both were the heroes of CSK's victory.

Batting first after losing the toss at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai scored 157 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Chennai achieved the target in 18.1 overs at the loss of 3 wickets. Shivam Dubey of CSK got out after scoring 28 runs. He was bowled by Kumar Kartikeya. Before him, Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 61 and Devon Conway made zero. Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff also got one wicket each from Mumbai.

Today was a double header-day and the first match of the day was played between Rajasthan and Delhi in Guwahati, which Rajasthan won by 57 runs.

Fastest Fifty of IPL 2023 in the name of Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane, who is debuting for Chennai Super Kings, came out to bat at number-3 against Mumbai. He capitalized on this opportunity and completed Fifty in just 19 balls. This is the fastest fifty of this IPL season. He broke the record of Shardul Thakur of Kolkata and Jos Buttler of Rajasthan. Both had scored half-centuries in 20 balls.

Rahane-Gaikwad's half-century partnership

Flamboyant start in Powerplay

Chasing the target of 158 runs, Chennai got a shock in the very first over in the form of Devon Conway. He was bowled by Jason Behrendorff without opening the account. Ajinkya Rahane, who came after him, completed Fifty in the Powerplay itself. He along with Rituraj Gaikwad took the team's score to 68 runs in 6 overs.

Spinners stopped Mumbai for 157 runs, Jadeja got three wickets

Batting after losing the toss, the team scored 157 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Opener Ishan Kishan played a fighting innings of 32 off 21 balls, while Tim David scored 31 off 22 balls. Tilak Verma contributed 22 runs. The rest of the batsmen could not perform well.

Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets for Chennai. Mitchell Santner and Tushar Deshpande got 2-2 wickets.

Spinners took 4 wickets for 12 runs

The Chennai spinners bundled up the Mumbai batsmen after scoring 61 for one in the powerplay. Jadeja took 2 wickets in the 7th and 9th overs. He dismissed Green and Kishan. And in the 8th and 10th overs, Mitchell Santner sent Suryakumar Yadav and Arshad Khan to the pavilion. Both took 4 wickets in giving 12 runs.

Aggressive start in Powerplay

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave Mumbai Indians an aggressive start after losing the toss. Both added 38 runs for the first wicket. After Rohit's dismissal, Ishan extended the innings with Cameron Green. After the end of 6 overs, the team scored 61 runs.

First: The last ball of the fourth over was thrown out swinging by Tushar Deshpande on a good length. Rohit Sharma got bold on this. He scored 21 runs on 13 balls.

Second: The fourth ball of the 7th over, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a short length on the middle stump. Ishan Kishan caught by Dwayne Pretorius at long on. He scored 32 runs on 21 balls.

Third: Second ball of the 8th over, Mitchell Santner bowled a fuller length on the leg stump. The umpire gave it a wide ball, but Dhoni took the review. Surya was caught out in the review. Surya scored a single off 2 balls.

Fourth: On the second ball of the 9th over, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a good length on the off stump. Cameron Green went ahead to play a big shot, but caught Jadeja in front. He scored 12 runs on 11 balls.

Fifth: Mitchell Santner bowled the first ball of the 10th over at a good length. Arshad Khan got LBW on this. He scored 2 runs off 4 balls.

Sixth: Jadeja made Tilak Verma LBW on the last ball of the 13th over.

Seventh: On the last ball of the 16th over, Sisanda Magala caught Tristan Stubbs at the long off boundary at the hands of Gaikwad.
