New Delhi: The LGBT community has said that if the Citizenship Register (NRC) is implemented in the country, it will be difficult for them to prove their citizenship. These people staged a protest against NRC at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. They said - the family has rejected us. Now it will be difficult for us to go back to our family and bring evidence of being an Indian citizen. The LGBT community demanded the government to address their concerns by implementing NRC. The protest was attended by people from the LGBT community from other parts of the country including Assam.

The protesters said that in many cases, transgenders have to leave their homes due to violence. They have no other evidence than the Aadhaar card. Aadhar card will not be considered as proof of citizenship, so how will they prove their citizenship?

'Challenge to prove gender and name for transgender'

Community members said that we have to face a lot of difficulties to prove our name and gender. The gender recorded in the birth and educational certificates of transgenders varies. Their names also change with the passage of time. In such a situation, how will it be proved that there are two different and not one person who is seeking citizenship from this community.

'If officer Manmarji works, transgenders will be deprived of citizenship'

Transjaders say that the government should find a solution to their problems before the NRC is fully implemented. If this is not done, the authorities will work on their own free will and exclude people from the LGBT community from the citizenship list. He also cited media reports claiming that about 2000 transgenders were not included in the NRC in Assam.
