In Perth, the Australian team was all out for 104 runs in the first innings. India got a lead of 46 runs. Australia started playing with a score of 67/7 in the morning. The team lost the last 3 wickets in scoring 37 runs.

Wicketkeeper Alex Carey could only add 2 runs to his first day's score and scored a total of 21 runs, while Nathan Lyon contributed 5 runs. Mitchell Starc scored the highest 26 runs.
