ICC New Chairman: Jay Shah, who took Indian cricket to new heights, has now taken over as ICC (International Cricket Council) President, strengthening his identity at the international level. 35-year-old Jay Shah has not only become the youngest person to hold this position, but is also the 5th Indian to chair the ICC. This achievement is the result of his vision, leadership ability and his contribution to Indian cricket.

Took charge of ICC

Jay Shah has started his tenure as ICC President at a time when many big decisions and controversial issues are under consideration in the world of cricket. The responsibility of resolving the hosting dispute between India and Pakistan over the Champions Trophy 2025 is now on his shoulders. India is advocating a hybrid model in this tournament, while Pakistan is refusing to accept it.

Jay Shah took over the ICC chair from Greg Barclay, who has held this position twice in a row. The first major tournament to be held during Shah's tenure will be the Champions Trophy, and deciding its format is the first big challenge for him.

Jay Shah's journey so far

Jay Shah's association with cricket began in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association. At that time, he played an important role in the construction of the world's largest cricket stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad. After this, in 2019, he took over as the Secretary of BCCI and provided strong infrastructure and financial stability to Indian cricket.

Jay Shah also served as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) from 2021, where he gave a new dimension to Asian cricket.

Priority as ICC President

Jay Shah made his priorities clear as soon as he took over as the President. He said,

"I am honored to play the role of ICC President. This is an exciting time for the sport, and our focus will be on including cricket in the Olympics, promoting women's sports, and giving equal importance to all formats of cricket."

This thinking of his will help make cricket more popular globally. Also, giving priority to women's sports reflects the inclusive thinking of his leadership.

ICC Tradition of Indians

Before Jay Shah, only four Indians have chaired the ICC:

Jagmohan Dalmiya

Sharad Pawar

N. Srinivasan

Shashank Manohar

After these great personalities, Jay Shah has the responsibility of taking the ICC to new heights.

Future Challenges and Expectations

Under the leadership of Jay Shah, the ICC not only has to resolve the Champions Trophy controversy, but also work to make the game more inclusive, make cricket more interactive in the digital age, and engage a new generation of audience globally.

His age and energy are a great advantage for him, and his success will be a matter of pride for Indian cricket. This new innings of Jay Shah points towards writing a new chapter on the global stage of cricket.
