Mallikarjun Kharge: While campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday made an objectionable statement about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing a public meeting in Kalaburagi, Kharge compared PM Modi to a 'poisonous snake' and said that whoever tastes the poison will die. The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly hit back at the Congress president's remarks and said that poison is in Kharge's mind and his statement shows his desperation.

'If you taste it, you will die'

Addressing the public meeting, Kharge said, 'Prime Minister Modi is like a 'poisonous snake', you will think whether it is poison or not. If you taste it, you will die...' As soon as the controversy over the statement escalated, Kharge clarified it. He said that I just said that BJP is like a poisonous snake, if you touch it you will die. Kharge said, 'I did not say anything about him (PM Modi). I have said earlier also that I do not make any comment against any person.

BJP started a strong counterattack

The BJP has seized on this statement of Kharge in the midst of the elections and has started a vigorous counterattack. BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that Kharge's thinking came out of desperation. He said, 'The poison is in Kharge's mind. This is a biased thinking towards PM Modi and BJP. This type of thinking comes out of frustration as they are unable to fight them politically and see their ship sinking. People will teach them a lesson.

'Congress will have to apologize to the country'

On the other hand, Union Minister Anurag Thakur retorted on Kharge's statement and said, "The repeated defeats in the elections and the anger of the Congress, somewhere it becomes the compulsion of the Congress to humiliate Modi ji and abuse him." From Sonia Gandhi to her president till now, sometimes Modi ji is called the merchant of death, sometimes he is called a scorpion, some is called a snake. Congress will have to apologize to the country, otherwise the people of Karnataka will give a befitting reply to them by confiscating their security deposit.
