Cricket / List of retained players released by IPL teams ahead of mega auction

IPL franchises today released their retention lists ahead of IPL mega auction. CSK, KKR, MI and DC have retained four players each. SRH, RCB and RR have retained three players each, while PBKS have retained two players. Prominent players to be retained by their IPL sides include MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Sanju Samson, among others.

Cricket Desk: The much-awaited list of retained players of all eight teams ahead of the mega auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 released on November 30 (Tuesday). The next season of the T20 extravaganza will see two new teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad competing for the elusive trophy and the competition is only get stiffer. Moreover, the new franchises will now pick three players (2 Indians and 1 overseas) in a draft by December 25 ahead of auction.

As far as the retentions are concerned, the superstars of T20 cricket – Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, MS Dhoni among others were retained by their respective franchises. Kohli and Maxwell were joined by Mohammed Siraj in the retention list for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). On the other hand, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) must have did well to convince Dhoni to continue playing for them and retained him eventually.

Moeen Ali, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are the other three players who will continue to stay with the four-time champions in the IPL. Talking of Champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) have also used their full quota of retention to stick with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav. Interestingly, they have decided to let go off Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan who might get picked by Lucknow or Ahmedabad.

PBKS retain Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep

As reports suggested earlier, Punjab Kings didn’t retain their skipper KL Rahul and went with Mayank Agarwal and uncapped Arshdeep Singh. Both of them did well in the last couple of years and deserved to get retained as well. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals were certain to retain Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler. They have added uncapped talented batter Yashasvi Jaiswal to the list.

Star players Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer will probably be playing for different teams in the next season. Delhi Capitals didn’t pull off many surprises and as reported a couple of days ago, have retained Rishabh Pant, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw and Axar Patel. Shreyas Iyer has decided to go into the auction it seems and parted ways with the franchise.

Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off the biggest surprise by not retaining their talismanic bowler Rashid Khan. They retained skipper Kane Williamson and the J&K duo of Umran Malik and Abdul Samad who will cost them a total of Rs 23 crore with the other two being uncapped players. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also went with four players sticking to Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer.
