US-Iran News / One has to bow down here, forgetting enmity with Trump, this Muslim country is joining us

Iran and the US have started indirect talks on the nuclear issue in Oman despite decades of hostility. The talks involve Steve Witkoff and Abbas Araghchi. The talks are limited to the nuclear program only. The US wants an end to the program, while Iran may demand limited enrichment.

US-Iran News: Despite decades-old bitterness, deep mistrust and bitter memories of the past, the stir of a new diplomatic beginning between Iran and America arose in the capital of Oman on Saturday. Indirect talks between the representatives of the two countries regarding the nuclear program have begun at a time when Tehran's nuclear program has succeeded in disturbing the world's sleep with its speed. Even though the hope of an immediate agreement is dim, this dialogue is being seen as a deep political and strategic signal.

Talks behind the scenes

This dialogue includes US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran's senior diplomat Abbas Araghchi. But this conversation is not taking place face-to-face, but with the mediation of Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi. On one hand, Araghchi entrusted the responsibility of conveying Iran's current situation and important points to the US side to the Omani Foreign Minister, while US representative Witkoff has also described it as a "sensitive but necessary step" towards diplomatic talks.

Confirming the talks, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai shared the information on social media, which shows that a new wave of dialogue has taken birth between the two sides.

Focus only on nuclear issue

According to Iranian state news agency IRNA, this conversation is limited only to nuclear issues. Araghchi's clear message is that if there is enough political will on both sides, a concrete timeline can be set. But the condition of any agreement will be - the basis of equality and protection of the interests of the Iranian people.

This stance indicates that Iran is no longer ready to accept any kind of pressure politics. It wants reconciliation, but on its own terms.

America's tough but flexible strategy

On the other hand, on behalf of America, Witkoff termed the talks as "direct" and made it clear that the main priority of America is to completely eliminate the possibility of Iran building nuclear weapons. His stance gives a glimpse of the policy of former President Donald Trump, in which an attempt was made to bow down to Iran by using "maximum pressure".

However, Witkoff also admitted that “some level of compromise is possible”, which suggests that the US no longer wants to go completely on the path of confrontation.

Iran's strategy: dialogue under pressure

Iran's situation is no less complicated than anyone else's. In the 2015 nuclear deal, it was allowed to enrich uranium only up to 3.67%, but now it has reached 60% - this level is very close to weapons-grade uranium. After the US withdrew from the deal in 2018, Iran has accelerated its program, which is now a major cause of concern for the international community.

It is believed that in this new dialogue, Iran can demand an exemption of enrichment up to 20%, but it is not going to bend towards shutting down its entire program.

A new window of hope?

This new initiative of dialogue in the relations between Iran and America, even if temporary and limited, is definitely a positive sign. Both sides must understand that every step taken towards nuclear weapons leads to not only regional but global instability.

This indirect dialogue in Oman may not work wonders, but it will definitely keep the torch of diplomacy burning, which till now had been extinguished somewhere in the darkness of hostility.
