India-Pakistan Relations: Pakistan has once again misused the global platform at the United Nations by raising the Kashmir issue and spreading misinformation. This time India criticized the Pakistani delegation and reprimanded them for using the UN platform to spread lies. Rajya Sabha member Rajiv Shukla, who was representing India in the general debate of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on information related subjects, condemned Pakistan's move. He stressed that misinformation and disinformation cannot change the ground reality.Rajiv Shukla said, "A (Pakistani) delegation has again used this prestigious platform to spread lies. Resorting to disinformation and misinformation has become a habit of this delegation." Shukla clarified that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have participated enthusiastically in the recently concluded elections in India's democracy, which shows the public's faith in Indian democracy. Assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases from September 18 to October 1, in which the public gave a clear message to the world with their participation.Pakistan's disinformation exposedTaking a strong stand on Pakistan's efforts, Rajiv Shukla said that no amount of disinformation and misinformation can change the ground reality. Condemning Pakistan's divisive and political agenda, he urged its delegation to use the global platform like the United Nations in a constructive manner. The delegation comprises 12 MPs from India, including Congress leader Rajiv Shukla, who are present at the UN to participate in various events.Emphasizing India's principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', Shukla said that there should be no barriers of any kind of nationality, gender, religion or culture on information. Underlining the role of an aware citizen, he said that he is not only able to deal with misinformation but also plays an important role in curbing corruption and holding governments accountable.Risks of false and misleading informationShukla said that India believes in empowering people for collective progress while following democratic values. Expressing concern over the dangers of misinformation, he said that it not only erodes trust in public institutions but also causes divisions in communities. On the issue of UN peacekeeping forces, Shukla said that India is concerned about the safety of peacekeepers. He urged the Department of Global Communications (DGC) to develop communication strategies in collaboration with regional missions to ensure the safety of peacekeepers.Expansion of information in regional languagesRajeev Shukla suggested that releasing peacekeeping websites in local languages can further expand the reach of their information. He cited the success of the UN's social media account in Hindi, which is followed by a large number of people. He said that expansion of such efforts in diverse languages will not only enhance global inclusiveness but will also encourage better engagement with communities in their native languages. Thus, at the UN, India not only exposed the lies and propaganda spread by Pakistan, but also sent a message to the world that inclusive access to information and adherence to democratic values are in everyone's interest.
