Delhi: A young cricketer from Hyderabad in southern Sindh province attempted suicide after he was not selected in the home team for the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Interstate Championship. Fast bowler Shoaib slit his wrist and family members took him to the hospital in an emergency on Tuesday. A family member told that after the trials for the championship, the coach did not choose Shoaib in the team after which he locked himself in the room due to depression.

The family member said, 'We found him in the bathroom of our room and his wrist was slit. He was unconscious and we immediately took him to the hospital where he is still in critical condition. Earlier, in February 2018, Karachi's U-19 cricketer Mohammad Zarayab committed suicide by hanging himself at his home after being dropped from the city's U-19 team.
