India-Pakistan Relations: Pakistan on Monday handed over to India the list of defence personnel missing in the 1965 and 1971 wars. Also, the two countries exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's custody. The Foreign Office gave this information. A statement said that India and Pakistan on Monday exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's custody through diplomatic channels simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad.

Both countries handed over the list

The Foreign Office said in a statement, "Pakistan has also handed over the list of 38 missing Pakistani defense personnel, who are believed to be in Indian custody since the wars of 1965 and 1971." Pakistan has handed over the list of 254 Indian or civilian prisoners and fishermen believed to be Indian in Pakistani jails, while India has handed over the list of 452 Pakistani or civilian prisoners and fishermen believed to be Pakistani in Indian jails.

There is an agreement between the two countries

Under the provisions of the bilateral agreement of the year 2008, such lists are exchanged every year on January 1 and July 1. The Foreign Office said that the government has urged the immediate release and repatriation of all Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentence in India. The Foreign Office said that under the efforts of the government, the return of 62 Pakistani prisoners in 2023 and four in the current year has been ensured so far.
