This honor is the 22nd international award conferred on Prime Minister Modi by a foreign nation. This prestigious honor was given to him for his extraordinary contribution in strengthening bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka and advancing cultural and spiritual heritage.

What is 'Mitra Vibhushan' medal?

The 'Mitra Vibhushan' medal is specially designed in the form of Dharma Chakra, which symbolizes the shared Buddhist heritage of the two countries. This medal is studded with nine precious gems and is depicted within a globe surrounded by lotus petals. It not only reaffirms cultural ties but also symbolises the historical bond between the two countries.
