Punjab : The Aam Aadmi Party government of Punjab wanted to secure a trust vote by convening a one-day special session of the Legislative Assembly on 22 September. Punjab AAP had alleged that the BJP was trying to topple the government of the state. However, now the Governor has canceled the special session. Governor Banwarilal Purohit has said that it is not in the rules of the Legislative Assembly to call such a special session.

In the 117-seat Punjab Assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party has 92 MLAs and enjoys an absolute majority. Congress has 18 MLAs. Shiromani Akali Dal has three MLAs and BJP only two. Bhagwant Mann had said that people have given majority to his government but some forces are engaged in wooing his MLAs at the cost of wealth. For this reason, trust will be gained by convening a special session.

AAP had accused of giving greed of 25 crores

The Aam Aadmi Party had said that the BJP has contacted about 10 of its MLAs and lured them Rs 25 crore each. A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office had said that the recommendation of the Cabinet would be sent to the Governor to convene a special session of the Legislative Assembly under Article 174 (1) of the Constitution. On the other hand, the BJP had surrounded the Aam Aadmi Party government and said that such 'political deception' is being done to divert the attention of the people of Punjab from the failure of the government.

The Speaker of the Assembly had issued the opposition

Vip was also issued by the speaker for the special session. It was said that all AAP MLAs should be present in the house during the proceedings. Former Deputy Speaker Veer Devendra Singh had also called this special session illegal and said that all the rules of legislation should be scrutinised. At the same time, the Speaker had said that the government can get the trust vote whenever it wants.
