Actor Dilip Kumar's wife, veteran actress Saira Banu has thanked PM Narendra Modi for his "early morning gracious phone call and condolences" following Dilip Kumar's demise on Wednesday. Condoling his death, PM Modi had tweeted, "Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled."

Mumbai: Actor Dilip Kumar’s demise has left everyone in shock. The icon died on Wednesday leaving a thousand memories behind. Celebrities paid their respects and also visited Saira Banu at their residence.

Extending condolences, PM Modi called Dilip Kumar 'cinematic legend' and gave Saira Banu a heartfelt call. He also tweeted,

"Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends, and innumerable admirers. RIP."

Saira also thanked the PM and Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray for the state honours accorded to Dilip Kumar for his funeral. "Thank you @PMOIndia and @CMOMaharashtra for according Dilip Sahib burial with state funeral protocols."

Piyush Goyal also paid tributes to the veteran actor, saying he will always remain immortal as an artist.

"I am deeply anguished by the demise of Dilip Kumar ji who held a unique place in the field of acting. He gave a new dimension to Indian cinema through his acting. He will remain immortal as an actor, and always find a place in his fans' hearts," he said in a tweet posted in Hindi.

Dharmendra also took to Instagram and wrote, “Extremely sad to lose my most affectionate brother in the industry. Jannat naseeb ho, Hamare Dalip Sahab ko (May he rest in heaven)."

For the unversed, At the Juhu Qabrastan in Santacruz, Mumbai, Dilip Kumar received a ceremonial guard of respect.
