Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium: The ODI World Cup is to be held in India in the month of October this year. This tournament is to start from 5 October. Let us tell you that many big matches of the World Cup are also to be played at the famous Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Before the World Cup, the renovation work of this ground was going on. But only then on Wednesday the news of fire in this stadium came to the fore.

Eden Gardens fire

One of the most iconic cricket stadiums in India, Eden Gardens is undergoing a massive makeover ahead of the 50-over tournament. The renovation work is being done under the supervision of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) headed by Snehasish Ganguly (brother of former captain Sourav Ganguly). But then came the news of fire in the stadium. The fire was immediately reported to the fire department and they later doused the fire with the help of two engines. There was no damage in the incident.

False ceiling fire

According to reports, the fire broke out in the false ceiling of the players' dressing room. There was a lot of sports equipment in the dressing room which got burnt due to the incident. Initially it was believed that a short circuit in the dressing room caused the incident. CAB may initiate an inquiry to find out the cause of the incident. With less than two months to go for the start of the ODI World Cup, the renovation work is going on in full swing at the iconic ground. ICC officials have already inspected the venue once and have reportedly expressed satisfaction over the pace at which the renovation is being done. They are scheduled to come again next month for another round of inspection.

Will host 5 matches

Eden Gardens will host five matches during the World Cup. The first of those five will be between the Netherlands and Bangladesh on 28 October. The second match at the venue will be the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on October 31. The stadium will also host one of India's matches when the Indian team takes on South Africa on 5 November. The fourth game at Eden Gardens was originally scheduled for 12 November but has been changed to 11 November as per the revised schedule released. The ground will also host the semi-final match on 16 November.
