Who is Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu

Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is a veteran leader of the Himachal Pradesh Congress. He has been an MLA thrice. Like many other leaders, Sukhu started his career in student politics. He rose to the position of chief of the state unit of the Congress. He wants to consolidate his position in the top leadership of the party after his victory in Nadaun.

Originally a resident of Nadaun in Hamirpur district, Sukhu holds a law degree. He was associated with the National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, during his college days. In 1989, he was elected president of the state unit. Between 1998-2008, Sukhwinder Sukhu also served as the President of the Himachal Congress (Youth).

Sukhu entered public service after being elected as a corporator of the Shimla Municipal Corporation twice in the period between 1992 and 2002. After his stint in the Youth Congress, he became the Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee in 2008. Sukhu was later made the party's president because of his party management skills and popularity.

Sukhwinder Sukhu's role in the Congress party was clear, as he was the head of the election campaign committee for the elections to be held later this year.
