Some rules in Japanese culture are so peculiar that they are often criticized. The Japanese administration has decided to abolish some such rules. Japan's Saga Province Board of Education conducted research in 51 middle and high schools in Japan. It was revealed in this research that the rule of wearing white underwear is for girls in 14 schools.
In many public schools in Japan, school teachers used to check the color of the students' underwear and these students were punished for not having white color. Many parents had raised objection to these rules and termed it as highly condemnable.
