India-Pakistan Relations: An important flag meeting was held between India and Pakistan on Friday to reduce tensions on the Line of Control (LoC). The meeting took place in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, where several incidents of cross-border firing and IED attacks were reported recently. Military officials of both the countries stressed the need to maintain peace on the border. The meeting, which lasted for about 75 minutes, discussed maintaining the ongoing ceasefire on the LoC and ensuring a tension-free environment. Objective and key points of the flag meetingThe flag meeting was attended by the Poonch Brigade Commander from India and the commanders of two Pak brigades from Pakistan. Both sides agreed that the ceasefire that has been in place since the year 2021 should be maintained and peace should be ensured on the LoC. The meeting was held in view of the increasing tension in recent weeks, which has seen incidents of ceasefire violations and IED attacks from Pakistan.Lack of flag meeting in previous yearsIt is worth noting that the flag meeting between India and Pakistan had not taken place for a long time. The last such meeting took place between the two countries in 2021. After this, there were frequent ceasefire violations on the border by Pakistan, which further increased the tension.Increasing attacks from across the border and the response of the Indian ArmyRecently, the ceasefire was violated several times by Pakistan. On February 11, an IED blast took place in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, in which two Indian soldiers including a captain were martyred. Apart from this, on Wednesday, firing was done in Indian territory from across the LoC in Rajouri district, to which the Indian Army gave a strong response. Earlier, firing was also done targeting Indian posts in Poonch sector.Vigilance and security system of Indian ArmyThe Indian Army and security agencies are constantly monitoring the LoC and are fully prepared to deal with any emergency. The Indian Army is giving a befitting reply to the repeated ceasefire violations and conspiracies by Pakistan. The aim of the army is to ensure the security of the country and maintain peace on the border.Further strategyAs per the consensus reached in the flag meeting, both the countries will have to make efforts to observe ceasefire and maintain stability on the border. However, in view of the continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan, the Indian Army remains fully alert and is ready to give a befitting reply to any provocation. This meeting is a positive step to strengthen communication at the military level between the two countries, but maintaining peace and stability in the future will also depend on the credibility and sincerity of Pakistan.
