Letter from DGHS to BCCI

Actually, a letter was sent to BCCI President Roger Binny on Thursday, August 1 by the Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) of the Government of India. Through this letter, DGHS has asked the Indian Board not to promote direct or surrogate advertisements of tobacco products. In fact, out of all the sponsors that BCCI gets, many companies also manufacture tobacco products. Posters of advertisements related to such companies are often seen in different stadiums during Team India or IPL matches.

Not only the advertisements received by BCCI, but many former and current cricketers of India have also been seen in surrogate advertisements of tobacco and liquor producing companies and many times different organizations have raised their voice regarding this. Now finally the health department has taken action in this matter. In this letter written to BCCI by DGHS Director General Dr. Atul Goyal, it has been told that India ranks second in the world in terms of deaths due to tobacco.

Dr Goyal told BCCI that it can take necessary steps to ban players from participating in advertisements of such products.
