Virat Kohli, one of the best batsmen in the world, averages over 50 in Tests. He averages above 50 not only in Tests but also in ODIs and T20s. If Kohli comes into the day-night Test against Sri Lanka in Bangalore, then the target will not only be a century but also the responsibility of saving his average. Kohli may average below 50 for the first time in 49 Tests.

Virat touched an average of 50 for the first time in his 52nd Test match. Since then his average has not gone below 50 in the biggest format of cricket. If Virat gets out below 43 runs in the second Test against Sri Lanka, then his average will come down to 50. His Test career best average reached 55.1.

His average has been on a steady decline since scoring an unbeaten 254 against South Africa. Before Kohli, India's three great batsmen Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid's average never came down once they crossed 50. Looking at Virat's career, he has scored runs in 100 Test matches at an average of 50.35. He has scored 8007 runs in 169 innings. He has 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries to his name.

Kohli is looking forward to his 71st Test century of his international career. He played his 100th Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali. Virat has not scored a single century in international cricket since 22 November 2019. He last played an innings of 136 runs against Bangladesh.

Virat has so far scored 1049 runs in 10 Test matches against Sri Lanka at an average of 74.92. He has five centuries and two half-centuries against the Lankan team. Virat was dismissed after scoring 45 runs in his 100th Test. The Test in Bangalore may result in India not getting a chance to bat in the second innings. In such a situation, Kohli would like to maintain his average above 50 by scoring at least 43 runs in the first innings.
