Voting is being held on 43 seats today in the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections. A total of 683 candidates are in the fray, including 73 women. Counting of votes will take place on November 23. Meanwhile, there are by-elections in Rajasthan and Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to all voters to vote.

Jharkhand Election: Voting is being held today in 43 out of 81 seats of the state under the first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections. The election is being held in a total of two phases, in which the next phase of voting will be held on November 20 and the counting of votes will be completed on November 23. A total of 683 candidates are in the fray in this phase, including 73 women, which shows the increasing participation of women in the state politics.

Eyes on the main candidates

The fate of many eminent leaders is at stake in this phase of elections. This includes veterans like former Chief Minister Champai Soren, Congress leader Ajay Kumar, JDU leader Saryu Roy, BJP leader Geeta Koda and Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji.
