The last time a big name headed the BCCI selection committee was former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth. Srikkanth was the chief selector from 2008 to 2012 and was preceded by Dilip Vengsarkar who held the position from 2006 to 2008.

This is why not coming forward

No big name is coming in this race because of the salary given to the chief selector. According to the report of news agency PTI, for this reason big names like Virender Sehwag are hesitating to apply for this post. A BCCI official told PTI that Sehwag had applied for the post of Team India's head coach at the time of CoA, but Anil Kumble had become the team's coach then. He said that this time the possibility of Sehwag applying for the post of chief selector is very less.

The official also said that the salary is so low that a player of Sehwag's stature would not apply for the post. However, he agreed that if we talk about height, then Sehwag from North Zone is the right contender for the post of Chief Selector. Former players are currently seen in broadcasting, the amount they are getting there is more than the salary given to the chief selector.

BCCI can give money

If we look at the current salary of the Chief Selector, it is one crore per annum while the rest of the committee members get Rs 90 lakh per annum. The official said that it is not that the BCCI cannot give Rs 4-5 crore to the chief selector. He told that many big names are refraining from applying because as per BCCI rule, the former player applying should have played at least five years in the last international match.

There are many big names from North Zone who have retired a few years ago. Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir are included in this, but it has not been five years since these three retired. It has been told in the report that unless the chief selector is a player of great stature, he finds it very difficult in front of people of stature like Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid.
