Let us tell you, Twitter operated by Elon Musk has banned 45,589 accounts promoting child sexual abuse and pornography in India between 26 October and 25 November. At the same time, the micro-blogging platform has also blocked 3,035 accounts promoting terrorism on its platform in the country.

More than 48 thousand accounts banned

Overall, Twitter banned 48,624 accounts in India during the reporting period. Twitter in its monthly report on compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021 said that they received 755 complaints from users in India in the same time frame and took action on 121 URLs.

These include court orders as well as complaints received from individual users. Most complaints from India were about abuse/harassment (681), IP-related violations (35), hateful conduct (20), and privacy violations (15).

Twitter in action on appeal of account suspension

In its new report, Twitter has said that it also took action on 22 complaints, which were appealing for account suspension. All these were resolved and appropriate response was sent. We have not revoked the suspension of any of these accounts after reviewing the specifics of the situation. All accounts are closed.

We also received 1 request regarding general questions about Twitter accounts during this reporting period, the company said. Under the new IT Rules 2021, large digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users will have to publish monthly compliance reports.
