'It is difficult to advance relations unless there is peace on the border'- Jaishankar

India-China Relation: India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has recently described India-China relations as extremely important for the future of Asia and global politics. He said that the relationship between these two major Asian countries will have an impact not only on this continent but on the whole world. He said that the two countries are neighbors with a population of more than a billion, and their border is 3,500 kilometers long. Disruption in patrolling arrangements after 2020

Jaishankar also said that the patrolling arrangements on the India-China border have been disrupted since 2020. He said that “the patrolling arrangements have been disrupted after 2020, and it needs to be resolved. This is a big issue, as both the countries had deployed a large number of troops on the border.”

Jaishankar said that many agreements between the two countries were made with the aim of maintaining peace and stability on the border. But, these agreements were violated due to the deployment of a large number of troops by China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in 2020, leading to tension on the border. “The Chinese put up a large number of troops and we responded in the same way,” he said.

Galwan Valley clash

Speaking on the 2020 clash in the Galwan Valley, Jaishankar said that when such a large number of troops are deployed on the border, the situation becomes extremely dangerous. "In such a situation, the possibility of accidents increases and that is what happened. Many soldiers of both the countries lost their lives in the clash, and since then the relations between the two countries have soured," he said.

Efforts to restore peace

Jaishankar said that it is most important to restore peace on the border and follow the agreements so that the relations between the two countries can improve. He said that "unless peace is restored on the border, it will be difficult to take forward other bilateral relations." For the last four years, India's primary focus has been on the withdrawal of troops from the border so that they can return to the military bases from where they traditionally operate.
