Assembly Election 2024: The Election Commission on Tuesday announced the dates for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections. Voting will be held in one phase for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, while voting will be held in two phases for 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand. Along with this, the Election Commission also announced the dates for the by-elections to the assembly and Lok Sabha seats in various states including Uttar Pradesh. Soon after this announcement, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati made an important announcement saying that BSP will contest alone in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.Election scheduleVoting will be held in Maharashtra on November 20 and counting of votes will be done on November 23. Elections in Jharkhand will be held in two phases—the first phase on November 13 and the second phase on November 20. The results of Jharkhand will also be declared on November 23. Apart from this, by-elections will be held for 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on November 13. Assembly by-elections will be held in Kedarnath area of Uttarakhand on November 20, the results of which will also come on November 23.Mayawati's big announcementAfter the announcement of the Election Commission, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said that her party will contest the elections alone in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Mayawati also made it clear that her party will also contest the by-elections to be held on 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on its own.
