Senior politician from Kerala P.C. George was taken into custody by the police on Sunday for his derogatory remarks against Muslims. George was taken into custody by the Fort police station in Thiruvananthapuram early Sunday from his residence at Erattupetta in Kottayam district, officials said. The Kerala Police on Saturday registered a case against George for promoting religious hatred through his speech at a conference in Thiruvananthapuram.According to officials, on the instructions of state police chief Anil Kant, the Fort police station took suo motu action against the former MLA. A case was registered against George under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and he is being brought to Thiruvananthapuram, they said.'Tea made from drops that cause impotence'A controversy has erupted over former Kerala Congress leader George asking non-Muslims in the state to refrain from restaurants run by the Muslim community. Addressing an event organized as part of the ongoing Anantapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan here on Friday, George had alleged that restaurants run by Muslims were selling tea made from "drops that cause impotence", aimed at the country. To gain control is to take away people's ability to procreate.George, 70, who represented the Poonjar seat in the Kerala Assembly for 33 years, had also urged non-Muslims to boycott businesses run by Muslims. George's remarks were condemned by the ruling CPI(M) and the opposition Congress in the state.
