Citizenship Amendment Act: For the first time after implementing CAA, the Central Government has given Indian citizenship to 300 refugees. On Wednesday, the Union Home Secretary also handed over citizenship certificates to 14 such people. These refugees were engaged in the struggle to get Indian citizenship for the last several years. After the notification of Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 came into force, for the first time on Wednesday, 300 people were given Indian citizenship. The Home Ministry called all of them to New Delhi and gave them citizenship. Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla handed over certificates to 14 applicants and congratulated them.CAA was implemented on March 11 this yearThe Central Government had implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act i.e. CAA on March 11 this year. Under this Act, Indian citizenship is to be given to persecuted minorities from India's three neighboring countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. However, the benefit of this Act can be given only to those people who have come to India on or before December 31. Under the Act, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians from neighboring countries had applied.You can apply like thisUnder CAA, online application can be made to get Indian citizenship, for this first of all the date of arrival in India has to be mentioned. Documents required are birth certificate, identity card, any government certificate of the three neighboring countries whether it is license or educational. Apart from this, the applicant will have to submit an eligibility certificate, which confirms that the applicant belongs to the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi, Christian or Jain community. The condition is that the applicant should have become a refugee of India before 31 December 2014.These are the documents requiredApplicants who have taken refuge in India before December 2014 will also have to provide certificate of India, for this documents like old visa, PAN card, insurance policy are being asked. The special thing is that some areas of the North-East have been exempted from CAA.
