New Delhi : It is becoming increasingly difficult to rein in the cases of sexual abuse against children in the country. In the year 2020, a total of more than 47 thousand cases have been registered under the POCSO Act. The government gave this information in the Lok Sabha on Friday. In the registered cases, Uttar Pradesh is at number one with 6,898 cases. It is followed by Maharashtra (5,687) and Madhya Pradesh (5,648).70 percent conviction in UPAccording to the data, the conviction rate in Uttar Pradesh was 70.7 per cent, while the figures for Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh were 30.9 per cent and 37.2 per cent, respectively. Manipur, on the other hand, was the only state and union territory where the conviction rate was 100 per cent for three consecutive years. Irani said that by the end of 2020, there were 170,000 cases pending, which was 57.4 percent more than the year 2018 (108129).No case in Ladakh and ChandigarhIn 2020, not a single case of POCSO Act was registered in the Union Territories of Ladakh and Chandigarh. At the same time, Goa and Himachal Pradesh have reported the least five cases each.Fast track special courts being increasedThe Union Minister said, the Justice Department is implementing a plan to set up 1,023 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), comprising 389 Special POCSO Courts, for speedy trial and disposal of cases related to rape and POCSO Act. does. Irani said 892 FTSCs were active in 2022, while there were 898 in 2021.
