Tornado In China: According to Chinese state media, at least five people have been killed and more than 33 injured in the massive tornado that hit Guangzhou, a city of 19 million people in southern China, on Saturday. Officials say 141 factory buildings were damaged, but no residential houses collapsed, according to Chinese news agency Xinhua. It said the tornado was at level-three intensity, two less than the highest level five. The city of Guangzhou, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) from Hong Kong, is the capital of Guangdong province.

A weather station in Liangtian village, Baiyun district, is located about 1.7 miles from where the tornado struck, Xinhua media agency reported. It was reported that a maximum wind speed of 20.6 meters per second was recorded during the tornado. By 10 pm local time, the search and rescue operation had ended.

Warning of heavy rain and storm issued

According to the information, this tornado has come after several days of heavy rain in southern China, which has caused severe floods and the lives of millions of people are in danger as rescue workers are struggling to rescue people trapped in the rising waters. The China Meteorological Agency warned of heavy rain and said the strong storms were likely to continue until the end of the month.

Flooding persists in Guangdong province, causing more than 110,000 people to be evacuated, state media reported, citing the local government. At least four people have died in floods in Guangdong earlier this week.

Concern increased over climate change

Millions of people are at risk of severe flooding due to heavy rains in southern China. Since April 16, continuous torrential rains have hit Guangdong, one of the country's most populous regions. Scientists have warned that the climate crisis will continue to cause changes in weather, which will prove fatal. However, tornadoes do not occur as frequently in China as they do in America. At least 1,772 people were killed by tornadoes in the country in the 50 years since 1961.
