Adani Group has planned to set up a huge semiconductor manufacturing plant in Maharashtra in collaboration with Israel's semiconductor manufacturer, Tower Semiconductor. The project will entail a total investment of Rs 83,947 crore ($10 billion), which is not only Adani Group's first step in the semiconductor sector, but it can also give a tough competition to China.

Proposed project and its impact

The Maharashtra government has provided a significant boost to the state's industries by approving this project. Under this scheme, a total investment of Rs 1.17 lakh crore is expected, including Adani Group's semiconductor project. These projects are expected to create about 29,000 new jobs. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said about these projects that it will encourage investment in the field of semiconductor and electric vehicle manufacturing and strengthen the local supply chain.

Details of Adani-Tower partnership

The partnership of Adani Group and Tower Semiconductor will set up a state-of-the-art chip manufacturing plant in Taloja, Maharashtra. The first phase of this project will have an investment of Rs 58,763 crore, while the second phase will have an investment of Rs 25,184 crore. The project is expected to employ 15,000 people upon completion. The first phase will produce 40,000 chips per month, which will increase to 80,000 chips per month in the second phase.

Other major investment projects

Apart from Adani Group, other companies are also making significant investments in Maharashtra. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India will set up an electric vehicle manufacturing project in Pune at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore, which will employ 1,000 people. Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company will bring a massive electric vehicle manufacturing project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar at a cost of Rs 21,273 crore, which will create around 12,000 new jobs.

Raymond Luxury Cottons will set up a flagship project in Amravati, which will manufacture spinning, yarn dyeing, jute weaving, and other products. The project will entail an investment of Rs 188 crore and employ 550 people.
